In less than 50 days regional Queensland will make the historic transition to digital-only free-to-air television.
84 per cent of households across regional Queensland have now converted to digital TV. This represents a huge increase from the 46 per cent in early 2009.
Digital TV will provide a better picture, sound quality and wider variety of channels and also close the gap for many rural and regional viewers who will now be able to enjoy access to the same number of channels as available in city centres.
Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy today said, “digital switchover is revolutionising the TV landscape across Australia. Over 10,000 residents across regional Queensland, including the communities of Redlynch, Mt Morgan and Goldsborough Valley are already enjoying access to 16 free-to-air digital channels instead of the 4 or 5 analog services they were receiving previously.”
Digital TV will provide a better picture and sound quality as well as a wider variety of channels. Digital TV will also ensure for the first time, that rural and regional viewers will now be able to enjoy the same number of channels as available in city centres.
